A new website design

Feb 29th 2008

The old-style blog format for Surftrackr.net had passed its sell-by date, and was starting to prove inadequate to the job. I spent today redesigning the site, and hope you like the results.

I used the Blueprint CSS framework, or it would probably have taken me much longer. Blueprint divides the screen into columns, and makes it easy to span them or stack them. By magic, everything lines up, which has saved hours messing about with CSS divs and spans.

The objectives of the redesign were to:

  1. Group associated content (like the documentation) together.
  2. Make full use of the width of the page in posts, particularly for code samples.
  3. Show a more professional "face".
  4. Provide a high-contrast, accessible interface.

Personally, I think it's a winner.
